Bernice Daniel Simmons of Iron City, TN was born January 20, 1925 in Wayne Co., TN, the daughter of the late Willie Coleman and Bertha Ethel Thompson Daniel. She was united in marriage to James Hubert Simmons on May 19, 1942 and he preceded her in death on November 23, 1998.
Mrs. Simmons was retired from T Jays Manufacturing and Flagg-Utica Knitting Mill in Florence, AL and was a member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Iron City, Tennessee.
Mrs. Simmons departed this life on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at her home at the age of 86 Years, 11 Months, 14 Days.
She is survived by two daughters, Nellie Horton and husband, Joe of Cypress Inn, TN, Sue Robbins and husband, Sonny of Iron City, TN; grandchildren, Stanley Horton and wife, Jennifer, Cindy Horton Roberson and husband, Jerry, and Darlene Hanback and husband, Stanley; great-grandchildren, Shaun Hanback and wife, Lindsey, Rachel Davis and husband, Zac, Jody Roberson and wife, Emma, Donny Joe Hanback and special friend, Lorie Melson, Stanson Horton, Hannah Horton, and Noel Hanback; a grt-grt-grandchild, Cole McKinley Davis; sister, Shirley Stults and husband, Aaron of Cypress Inn, TN; special in-laws, Elizabeth Daniel, Iva Dean Bryant, Beulah Daniel, Novella Cook, and Doyle Simmons and wife, Nelle; special neighbors and friends, Edith Brewer, Mittie Borden, Dexter and Evelyn Brewer, and a host of nieces and nephews who were very special to her.
Her family said "she loved all of us and her church family, flowers, home, and the Lord. Her life was a blessing to us and all that knew her and we are at peace knowing that she is at rest in the arms of the Lord".
Services will be Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel, Collinwood, Tennessee, with Tim Hanback and Jody Roberson officiating. Burial will follow in the Railroad Cemetery, Iron City, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Pallbearers will be Shaun Hanback, Donny Joe Hanback, Jody Roberson, Stanson Horton, Mike Stults, and Greg Stults and nephews serving as honorary pallbearers.
