Bernice McKinnie, 86, of Bolivar, died early Saturday morning February 3, 2007 at Regional Hospital in Jackson.
She was born the daughter of the late Oscar and Dosha Hensley Smith in Hardeman County and lived here most of her life. The widow of Algee McKinnie, she was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church and had worked as a courier for the U.S. Postal Service before becoming a homemaker. Mrs. McKinnie loved to work puzzles and word games and for many years called friends and family to wish them a "Happy Birthday", rarely missing anyone.
Her survivors are her daughter, Bonnie Ervin of Bolivar; two sisters, Estelle Vaughn of Grand Junction and Dorothy Henley of Memphis; one brother, Jewel (Buddy) Shearon of Hickory Valley; three granddaughters Susan (Mike) Skibba, Cindy (Thomas) Greene and Becky (Greg) Ervin; three great grandchildren, Joshua (Chellie) Gaggley, Amanda Bishop and Zach Hornsby; two step-great grandchildren, Tabitha Eubanks and Tiffany Howell and five step-great,great grandchildren. She was preceded in death daughter, Martha McCommon; sister, Irene Duncan; brother, Louis Smith and two granddaughters, Gina and Pam Ervin.
