Bereniece Wardlow Gordon, 94, of Memphis, died Friday, September 23, 2005 at Methodist Central Hospital.
The widow of William Osceola Gordon, Sr., she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Union University and a Masters Degree in Education from University of Memphis and was retired from teaching in the Memphis Public School System. Mrs. Gordon was born October 2, 1910 in Pocahontas, daughter of the late Edward Wardlow and Lyda Tipler Wardlow. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church for more than 40 years where she was involved in the choir, the Generation Singers, and played piano for the Aldersgate Sunday school class. She was very active in a number of patriotic organizations and held numerous offices over her long time involvement in the DAR, Colonial Dames, Daughters of the American Colonists, Dames of the Court of Honor, and UDC. She was a long time volunteer for the Veterans Hospital in Memphis and received several awards for her many hours of service.
Services were 4 PM Monday, September 26, 2005 at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar Avenue with Debby Mathewson and Ed White officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Shackelford Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two sons, William Osceola Gordon, Jr. of Roswell, Georgia and Kimbal C. Gordon, II of Memphis and one grandson, Kimbal Cross Gordon III of Memphis.
