Ben W. Carr, Sr., 82, of Bolivar, died Monday, August 1, 2005 at Lifecare of Collegedale near Chattanooga.
The widower of Donna Belle Harwell Carr, who died May 11, 1999, he was a principal at Saulsbury Junior High School, Superintendent of Hardeman County Schools and principal of Bolivar Elementary School. Mr. Carr was born August 5, 1922 in Pocahontas, son of the late Charles Howard Carr and Lucy Ward Carr. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Memphis State College and his Master's Degree from George Peabody College (now Vanderbilt University). Mr. Carr was a former Chairman of the Hardeman County Democratic Party and a past President of West Tennesssee Education Association. He was a member of the National Aerospace Education Association and the Hardeman County Airport Authority. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of Saulsbury Baptist Church.
Services were 10 AM Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at Saulsbury Baptist Church with Jim Madden offficiating. Burial was at Eureka Cemetery near Pocahontas. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar were in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Ben W. Jr. and Janet Carr of Chattanooga.
