Barbara Sue Briley Murphy was born in Hardin County on May 1, 1936. She was the daughter of the late David and Euna Briley of Savannah, Tennessee.
She passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at her home surrounded by her children.
On September 12, 1953, Barbara married the love of her life, Arden Murphy, Jr., who preceded his wife in death on July 5, 2016.
She retired from Savannah Manufacturing Company and later baby sat for many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.
She enjoyed reading, gardening, canning, and cooking. She loved cooking her family’s favorite dishes. She always enjoyed entering her canning and baked goods in the Hardin County Fair, where she won several awards and Champion Baker.
Barbara was an active member of Counce United Pentecostal Church where she was actively involved in their Ladies Ministry and was known by many as “Memaw”.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandy (Roy) Duncan of Morris Chapel, Tennessee and Wanda (Chuck) Seratt of South Fulton, Tennessee; son, Randy (Renee) Murphy of Decaturville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Adam (Hager) Droke of Savannah, Tennessee, Charles (Rebecca) Seratt of Martin, Tennessee, Bethany (Michael) Carter of South Fulton, Tennessee, Anna (Gaven) Hollandsworth of Springville, Tennessee, Justin (Katelyn) Murphy of Lebanon, Tennessee, and Kyle (Sarah) Murphy of Decaturville, Tennessee; great grandchildren, Vincent Latch of Adamsville, Tennessee, Stephen Droke of Savannah, Tennessee, Ella and Peyton Hollandsworth of Springville, Tennessee, Jaxon and Ethan Carter of South Fulton, Tennessee, Scarlett Murphy of Lebanon, Tennessee, and Kyla, Harper, and Brynlee Murphy of Decaturville, Tennessee; brother, Don (Margie) Briley of Savannah, Tennessee; sister in law, Jana Briley of Palm Coast, Florida; nieces, Shari (Chris) Green of Adamsville, Tennessee and Teri (Michael) Laverty of Kansas City, Missouri; nephew, Barrett (Becca) Briley of Palm Coast, Florida; special friends, Rachael Lee, Janet Crowe, and Mary Copeland, all of Savannah, Tennessee; and a host of special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her brothers, Dale Briley and his wife Nancy and Ronnie Briley; baby niece, Lisa Dale Briley; and nephew, Clayton Briley.
