Annie Gail Walker Johnson

October 5, 1927 — November 23, 2024

Savannah

Annie Gail Walker Johnson was born to Maude Porterfield and David Brown Walker on October 5, 1927. After graduating from Draughon Business School in Nashville, she returned to Savannah to work in Brown Shoe Company's office, where she met her future husband, Ray Shelby Johnson. They married on July 12, 1946, and settled in the Holland Creek community.

Annie Gail labored on the farm and in the garden to provide for her family. She adored her grandchildren, taking them on many adventures around the farm. She enjoyed being in nature, especially watching birds and butterflies. In addition to being a superb cook and excellent seamstress, she loved to read books, write poetry, and research genealogy, co-writing a book, Kith and Kin of Hardin County, with her sisters. Annie Gail cared deeply for the needy and elderly in her community, serving them in a multitude of ways. She was an active member of Holland Creek Methodist Church, often loading many of the neighborhood children in her car to carry them to church and Bible school.

Annie Gail peacefully departed this life on November 23, 2024 at the age of 97 years and 49 days.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Ann Bain (Larry), Glona Jo Goodman, Jerry Mack Johnson (Susan), Laura Beth Hinton (Calvin), and Cherry Denise Johnson; ten grandchildren, Timothy David Bain (Susie), David Todd Goodman (Leah), Larry Jason Bain (Amy), Stephen Calvin Hinton (Hilary), Ginna Brooke Caldwell (Justin), Daniel Wesley Hinton, Stefanie Marie Johnson, Robert Hunter Hancock (Amy), Jeremy Michael Johnson, and Laura Ann Hinton; twelve great grandchildren, Bo (Sadie), Emma, Zach, and Tyler Bain, Jake and Ali Goodman, Callee and Caroline Hinton, Austyn, Carter, Marcee, and Brayden Caldwell; and one great great grandson due in January.
