Anna Wiley Carter

Anna Wiley Carter, 91, of Memphis, formerly of Bolivar, died Sunday, February 5, 2006 at Memphis Healthcare & Rehabilitation.



The widow of Hubert Walls Wiley, who died in 1972, and Alvin Carter, who died in 1994, she was retired from Kilgore. Mrs. Carter was born March 30, 1914 in McNairy County, daughter of the late William Franklin Whaley and Frances Jane Gooch Whaley and lived near Pocahontas and in Bolivar before making her home in Memphis in 1973. She was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Memphis and was a former member of the Eastern Star.



Graveside services were 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at Walnut Grove Cemetery with David Cooper officiating. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar were in charge of arrangements.



Survivors include one daughter, Shirley F. Johnson of Lexington and two grandchildren, Stan Hazelgrove of Cordova and Tammy Middleton of Lexington. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty C. Williams; grandson, Mac Johnson, Jr.; one sister, Essie Fiddler and three brothers, Thomas, Jim and John Whaley.
