Anna B. Appling

Anna B. Appling, proud mom, dedicated sister, beloved friend and cherished Mom/MeMe/MomApp, was born on August 1, 1925 in Chestnut Mound TN, the daughter of the late Earnest L Massey and Effie Mae Glover Massey. She departed this life peacefully on December 26, 2022 in Selmer, TN at the age of 97 years, 4 months and 25 days.

Anna was united in marriage to Robert Henry Appling on April 27, 1946 who preceded her in death March 3, 1995.

Anna enjoyed spending time with her beloved family and friends. She never met a stranger and always had a good story to tell. She loved being bundled in a warm blanket by the fireplace on wintery days and setting out in the warm sun watching the little hummingbirds on the warm days. No matter the weather you could always catch her with a big bowl of ice cream and she never turned down a frosty treat from Wendy’s. She loved her music, especially the song "Pontoon," and teaching others to two step. She would hum her songs and dance away. You could often catch her whistling her songs and teaching others to whistle. If she wasn’t singing, dancing or trying to stay warm, you could always find her in the kitchen making sure everyone had a hot meal. She was always busy and had more energy at the age of 97 than most do at 50. There was no doubt she loved her life and she was always ready for the next adventure.

In addition to her parents Anna is preceded in death by brothers James Robert Massey and Harold Dean Massey, sisters Willie Mae Vanderpool, Hilda Estelle Robinson and Reba Lorene Tomlinson.

Anna is survived by her three children: William Barry Appling and wife Cyndi of Arlington, TN. Robert Ernest Appling of Olive Branch, MS. Deborah Lynn Appling Burks and husband Neal of Selmer, TN; five grandchildren: Keith Jason Appling and wife Sherri of Knoxville, TN, Heather Burks Maxedon and husband Brett “Ubbie” Maxedon of Selmer, TN, Michael Brandon Burks of Selmer, TN, Robert Wesley Appling and wife Jenny of Olive Branch, MS, Whitney Marie Appling Talbert and husband Ryan of Newton, MS; ten great-grandchildren: Analyn Nicole Maxedon, Nathan Ray Burks, Preston Neal Burks, Brody Appling, Allie Blair Maxedon, Addison Cappleman, Austin Brett Maxedon, Avery Appling, Danuel Talbert and Samuel Talbert; a sister, Gladys Ardelia Barnett of Florence, AL; and a host of nieces and nephews.
