Alta Ellis Hines was born January 28, 1907 in Bethel Springs, Tennessee the daughter of the late Richard Henry and Mary Elizabeth Sanders Ellis.
She was united in marriage to James Ab Hines in 1927. Mr. Hines preceded her in death in December of 1983.
Mrs. Hines attended Freed-Hardeman College and graduated from Union University with a degree in teaching. She returned to McNairy County and taught at Moore's Schoolhouse before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was a member of the Bethel Springs Order of the Eastern Star and the Bethel Springs Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Hines departed this life on December 20, 2010 in Adamsville, Tennessee at the age of 103 Years, 10 Months, 22 Days. She is survived by a daughter, Faye Mitchell of Selmer, TN; two sons, Doug Hines and wife Lettie of Selmer, TN and Richard Hines and wife Sissy of Marietta, GA; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great- grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Sweeney of Selmer, TN and Frankie Crabtree of Gurdon, AR; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hines was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Burks; and four brothers: Parker Ellis, Dewey Ellis, Howard Ellis, and Hubert Ellis.
