Nell Dixon Holland

Nell Dixon Holland, 87, of Saulsbury, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023, at her home.

The widow of John F. "Frank" Holland, who died in 2007 after 49 years of marriage, she was retired as a title clerk, having worked over 40 years. Some of the places she worked were Union Planters Bank in Memphis, Navy Federal Credit Union in Marietta, GA and Jacksonville, FL, Pawpaw's Campers in Picayne, MS and Rainbow Oldsmobile in Harvey, LA.  She was born March 18, 1936, in Saulsbury, daughter of the late L.D. and Mary Johnson Dixon.  She married Frank on October 14, 1958, and had lived in Memphis, New Jersey, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and Louisiana prior to moving back here in 2006.  Mrs. Holland was known as a hard worker, mowing her yard well into her 80's and doing painting around her house.  She was extremely organized and her family describes her as always trying to help others.  Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart and her daughter was her best friend.  Mrs. Holland even had a comic book named after her.  She was  a member of New  Bethel Baptist Church where she did a little bit of everything.

Survivors include her children, John F. Holland, Jr. of Pearl River, LA, Kenneth B. Holland of Gretna, LA and Elizabeth C. Holland of Saulsbury; a sister, Mary  Alice  Spencer of Collierville; and two grandchildren, Sean Miller of Plattsmouth, NE and Shannon Payan of Corona, CA.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Patrick Holland; two brothers, Robert Junior Dixon and Troy Dale Dixon and a sister, Maxine Russell.  Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org/donate) or the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org/donate).
