Mrs. Miller was born and reared in the Sweetlips Community of Chester County, the daughter of the late Albert and Leeatta Smith Terry. She attended schools of Chester County and in 1933 was married to Marvin Hurley Miller. They made their home in the Sweetlips Community where they operated a general store, cotton gin, and griss mill from 1937 to 1950. They moved to Henderson in 1951 and opened the Miller’s Market and Grocery in 1957. They later moved to the East Main Street location and opened Miller’s Big Star in 1965.
Mr. Miller died in 1983 and Mrs. Miller continued to operate the Big Star until her health declined.
She was a charter member of the Henderson Business and Professional Women’s Association. She was a faithful member of the Henderson First Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday school in the children’s department.
Mr. and Mrs. Miller had employed many teenagers thru the years and had been a big influence on the youth of Chester County, encouraging them to higher education.
She was honored with the Outstanding Citizenship Award in 1995 by the Chester County Chamber of Commerce for her commitment to the business community and her support and influence of the youth of Chester County.
She is survived by a daughter Patsy Boswell and husband Joe of Jackson and a granddaughter Connie Dowsley and husband Cole of Humboldt and two great grandsons Cole Dowsley, Jr. and Joseph Dowsley. She is also survived by two faithful caregivers, who had cared for Mrs. Miller for over fifteen years; Lillie Terry and Jennie Mooney.
