Alice Whitehurst Moore

Alice Whitehurst Moore died peacefully at home in Acton, TN, on September 9, 2023 at 6:35 PM surrounded by her daughters, Amy and Chrissie along with her brother, Ray. Bringing to close a life that started 82 years ago in the nearby community of Michie, TN on October 27, 1940. Alice was the only daughter and youngest child of Barnett Brice Whitehurst (who passed in 1985) and Thelma Holmes Whitehurst (who passed in 2015). Alice had two older brothers, Garland (who passed in 2021) and Ray, who remained by her side until she departed this world for her heavenly home.

Alice spent most of her early years in the Acton, TN area (with brief stays in Raines, TN, Murphy NC and Pickwick, TN) where she met the love-of-her-life, Derman Darrell Moore who was attending Freed Hardeman College in Henderson, TN. They were married in Amory, MS on August 24, 1957 and spent 39 years together serving the Lord until his passing in 1997.

As the wife of a gospel preacher, Alice had the opportunity to serve in various congregations in Amory, MS, Johnson City, TN, Meridian, MS, St. Albans, WV, Columbus, OH, Indianola, MS, Corinth, MS and Ramer, TN before retiring near the area she entered the world many years ago - Acton, TN. 

Alice and Darrell were blessed with five children who they raised to "love the Lord with all your heart, mind and soul." Giving their children a compass to navigate this world as they look forward to their heavenly home. 

Mourning Alice's passing but rejoicing in a life well-lived are her children: Chrissie Henthorne and husband Mark of Trinity, FL, David Moore and wife Linda of New Tazewell, TN, Kevin Moore and wife Andrea of Amanda, OH, Amy Tillman Sharpton and husband John of Harvest, AL, Tim Moore and wife Joyce of Magnolia, TX. Alice was also blessed with nine grandchildren along with six precious great grandchildren.

Alice will be greatly missed by her beloved sister-in-law, Georgia Whitehurst of Mt. Juliet, TN; loving aunt, Azalee Ambrose of Huntsville, AL; niece, Janie Frizzell and husband Tim of Nashville, TN; nephew, Dan Whitehurst of Mt. Juliet, TN; and many very dear cousins.

Special thanks to Trey Kay who mother came to love and we jokingly refer to as our "adopted brother." Also thanks to Magnolia Regional Home Health and Hospice for your wonderful care and support during what came to be her last month in this world. You truly are God's angels on earth.
