Alexander "Alex" R. Smith, IV

Alexander Rogers Smith, IV, known affectionately as Alex, was born on March 16, 1942 in Waltham, MA. He was the son of the late Alexander Rogers Smith III and Carlene Dalton Smith.

On July 21, 2000, Alex entered into a loving union of marriage with Nancy A. Kelly. Throughout their years together, they shared a deep and meaningful connection.

Alex dedicated himself to serving his country in the United States Navy. He served with honor and was a true patriot. Even after leaving the military, he continued to serve his fellow veterans at American Legion Post 162 in Selmer, TN. One of his proudest roles was serving as a live bugler for military funerals until his health no longer allowed him to do so.

Beyond his military service, Alex possessed remarkable skills as a carpenter. He had a sincere passion for woodworking and had an incredible talent for building anything he put his mind to. Family and friends often benefited from his craftsmanship.

However, Alex's dedication to service extended far beyond his military and carpentry work; it permeated every aspect of his life. He selflessly volunteered at McNairy Regional Hospital, providing assistance to anyone in need and extending friendship to all who crossed his path.

Those who had the pleasure of knowing and loving Alex will always treasure his sense of humor, quick wit, and unwavering commitment to helping others.

On January 5, 2024, Mr. Smith peacefully passed away at the age of 81 years, 9 months, and 20 days in Corinth, Mississippi. Left behind to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Nancy "Chris" Smith of Selmer, TN; a daughter, Shelly Johnson and her husband Doug of Houston, AL; a son, named Alexander (Alex) Smith V of Oakland, TN;  two sisters, Barb Smith of Lady Lake, FL, and Karen Smith of New Hampshire; he leaves several grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, as well as a host of extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Alex was preceded in death by an infant sister.

Alexander Rogers Smith IV's life was marked by service, dedication, and craftsmanship. His memory will forever be treasured by those whose lives he touched through his selflessness and genuine care for others.
