He was born in Madison County, son of the late Bob and Mollie Henley Hemby. He farmed and logged as a young man. He was married to Maurine Harville, May 25, 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He returned to Chester County after the service. He logged, farmed and worked at the Henderson Gin Company. He later worked for the Chester County Highway Dept. and retired in 1986. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the Finger Church of Christ.
He is survived by two sons Tim Hemby (Thelma) of Finger and Roy Hemby (Billene) of Henderson; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Maurine Harville Hemby in 2002.
