A. E. Smith

Mr. A. E. Smith, Jr., age 85 of Toone, departed this life Wednesday morning, August 21, 2013 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

Mr. Smith was born in Finger, Tennessee Sunday, March 18, 1928 to the late Ambrose E. and Iva Myrtle Ervin Smith. Two years later, his family moved to Toone, where he lived most of the rest of his life. He was united in marriage to Nancy Elizabeth Jones, who survives, August 12, 1950. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and worked for 28 years as a plant supervisor for Amira. He also farmed cattle. He was very active in the Toone community, serving as Mayor for 20 years as well as an Alderman and was responsible for the construction of Toone City Park. He was a member of Toone Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for 30 years as well as Treasurer since 1972.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, Mr. Smith is survived by a daughter, Karen Lambert and husband John of Toone; a son-in-law, Curtis Stack of Toone; five grandchildren, Stephen Lambert of Toone, Melissa Lambert Hazelwood and husband Bo of Toone, Ashley Lambert Zawacki and husband Ryan of Toone, Lindsey Stack Workmon and husband Greg of Marietta, GA, and Jordan Stack and fiancée Mallory Moore of Toone; and two great-grandchildren, Will and Tate Zawacki.

Those who preceded him in death include his parents, a sister, Katy Jo Langford, and a daughter, Susan Stack.
