Vernon Lee Daniel passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the age of 89. He was born in Fyffe, AL on June 3, 1924 to William Monroe and Avie Deedy Jones Daniel. Vernon graduated from Tenbroeck High School and was attending college when he was drafted during WWII. Vernon was a US Navy Veteran who served in WWII and in the Korean War with the submarine fleet. On September 20, 1947, he married Audrah Jestine Pope who preceded him in death on October 9, 2013.
After living in San Diego, CA, Chattanooga, TN and Pensacola, FL Vernon and family moved to Savannah in 1960. He helped start up the Tennessee River Pulp and Paper Company where he was employed until he retired in 1984. Vernon was a member of First Baptist Church in Savannah, TN and a member of The American Legion. He loved Alabama Football, was an avid Braves Fan and kept up with the stats on each player. He was also a true sportsman who respected and studied wildlife.
He is survived by two daughters, Gloria Daniel Herrin (Walter) of New Johnsonville, TN and Pamela Grace Daniel of Savannah, TN; two grandchildren, Daniel Lee Herrin (Amy) of Pleasant View, TN, and
Paula Herrin-Stephens (Shaun) of Camden, TN; and six great-grandchildren, James Bowden, Megan Bowden, Emily Herrin, William Herrin, Xander Stephens, and Shanna Stephens. He is also survived by one sister, Nellie Sue Daniel Lindsey of Valdosta, GA.
In addition to his parents, and spouse Audrah, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Adger Melvin Daniel, Raymond Franklin Daniel, and Billy Pal Daniel. Also by six sisters, Louis Cleo Daniel Terrell, Annie Ruth Daniel Ayers, Willow Maxine Daniel Vogel, Mary Jo Daniel White, and Fredna Juanita Daniel Cavanaugh.
