Steve Guinn’s loving, compassionate soul departed this Earth in the early evening of Friday, May 6, 2016, as a result of multiple myeloma and the unforeseen complications of a stem cell transplant at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, TN. He was 62 years of age.
Steve was born and reared in Henderson, TN, the son of the late Wasel Lamar Guinn and Ella Louise Cloud Guinn. After graduating from Chester County High School in 1971 and subsequently Jackson State Community College in 1973, Steve found fulfillment in the family business of automobile purchasing and sales. Over a span of 42 years, he purchased and/or sold automobiles for Guinn Brothers Dodge, Chrysler & Plymouth, Guinn’s Used Cars Inc., and, most recently, Golden Circle Auto Group.
A man with true servant’s heart, Steve was a stalwart of Henderson and Chester County. He was devoted member of First Baptist Church in Henderson until his death. He served his country for over 12 years as a member of the Tennessee National Guard. Mr. Guinn was an active member of the Henderson Planning Commission for over 30 years. He sat on the Board of Directors for the Carl Perkins Child Abuse Center and served on the Chester County Foster Care Review Board. In addition, he helped found the local Toys for Tots program, was a member of the Henderson Jaycees for numerous years and served as Co-Chairman of the Tennessee Bicentennial Homecoming in 1986.
Steve married Janice Roland, also of Henderson, on September 24, 1976. They were blessed with one beautiful daughter, Amy Guinn Woods. Family and friends were of the utmost importance to Mr. Guinn, who especially cherished every moment spent with his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and his three adoring grandchildren.
Mr. Guinn is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Janice, and his daughter, Amy and husband Andy of Indian Trail, NC; three grandchildren, Madelyn Guinn, Ella Ruth, and Andrew Latham Woods; one brother, David Guinn and wife Darlene of Henderson; a nephew, Brent Guinn and wife Christa, great nephews, Grant and Garrett Guinn of Marietta, GA. He is also survived by his uncle and aunt, C. D. (Junior) and Lerlene Guinn of Henderson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive family and friends at Shackelford Johnson Chapel beginning at 3 pm on Tuesday, May 10. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 11, at 2pm in Shackelford-Johnson Chapel.
Donations in the memory of Mr. Guinn may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Carl Perkins Child Abuse Center, First Baptist Church of Henderson Building Fund or the Carl Perkins Center for Child Abuse.
