Ruth Long Carrington
Henderson: Lola Ruth Long Carrington, age 89, died Sunday morning October 16, 2016 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Plano, Texas.
Mrs. Carrington was born April 3, 1927 at Parsons, TN, the daughter of the late Harry and Ruby Houston Long. She graduated from Parsons High School, the class of 1945 and attended business school in Nashville. She married Casey Carrington of Parsons in 1947. They had made their home in Henderson since 1954 where Dr. Carrington owned and operated his dental practice until his retirement from dentistry in 1998.
Mrs. Carrington was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and she and Dr. Carrington were among the founding members of Woodland Hills Country Club. Her interest included golfing and playing bridge in addition to being wife, mother and a part of a group of couples that formed a tight knit group that spanned decades.
She had been a member of First Baptist Church of Henderson since 1954.
She is survived by a son Thomas Carrington and wife Marjorie of Plano, TX and their five children; Nathan (Amanda) Carrington, Zavire Shiran, Mary Ruth (James) Burger, Daniel (Steven) Carrington, and Andrew Carrington and granddaughters Rachel (Josh) Scobey of Memphis and Miranda Ruth (Craig) Melton of Germantown, both Judith Carrington Rowsey’s daughters. Judith preceded in death in 1996.
She is also survived by great-granddaughters Casey Ann Scobey, Stella Claire Scobey, Rita Friday Carrington and Claire Elizabeth Burger, a bother James Houston Long (Sara) of Memphis, a brother-in-law Tom C. Parsons, Sr. of Nashville and a sister-in-law Frances R. Medley Long of Rockmart, GA and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Harry and Ruby Long, husband Casey Carrington, daughter Mary Judith Carrington Rowsey, a brother Harry L. Long, a sister Martha Long Parsons, and an infant son Eric Charles Carrington.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Bro. Stan Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Henderson City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Shackelford – Casey Chapel from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday.
