Philip Hull Morson

Memorial services for Dr. Philip Morson will be held 2 pm Sunday, April 2, 2023, at the Shackelford chapel in Bolivar. He passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022 at his home in Bolivar.

Twenty-third of December this life he did leave.
Morson his clan, Philip his name
Throughout his long journey much burden was weaved
Though not till the end his spirit did wane.

Drew, Andrew, Sam, Bobbie his children survive;
Preceded him Ben whose life ended short;
Brother Mac journeys on, much does he thrive
Granchildren the many form quite the strong cohort.

From Guntown he left for school he was bound
In Starkville he studied, received his degree
Later graduate school, Kansas City his town
Still always the Bulldog fan yet would he be.

Erudition the trait that he always preserved
Learning the goal he held always above
Intellectual pursuits doggedly served
The mark of it all were the books that he loved.

Achievements he made of which he was proud:
Doctor of medicine, years he did serve
Leader of workers statewide were his crowd
Sons, daughters, and grandchildren well knew his verve.

More than deeds did his spirit reign high
His mark on our lives never swiftly erased
Impressions emblazoned on minds far and nigh
Friendships and kinships could not be replaced.

Though “easy” a word one might not have applied
Still tender at times, genuine always his nature
A will with such force never easily tried
Tempests of moods no doubt were a feature.

Yet in spite of the flaws he will always be loved
His memory here, his spirit above
We honor him for all the lessons he gave us
We mourn him for all his company deprived us.
