MIKE MORTON
Atoka, TN: William Michael Morton age 62 passed away July 14, 2021 at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis.
He was born December 5, 1958 in Memphis, the son of Lonnie Carroll and Bobbie Shirley Muse Morton. He graduated from Jackson Avenue High School in 1975. He was a self-taught musician and drummer. He taught banjo lessons at Yarbrough Pickin Post for several years and he was in several bands including Southwind and the Tennessee Gentlemen. He also worked with his father Lonnie as a residential and commercial painter. He also worked as an Insurance adjuster and marketer on eBay. Then he owned his own contracting business.
He was an avid Indian artifact collector. He loved the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish. He had a great personality and was loved by all.
He married Mavis Bright on May 5, 1984. They made their home in Atoka, TN the last twenty-four years.
He was a member of the Belleview Baptist Church in Memphis.
Mr. Morton is survived by his wife, Mavis Sue Bright Morton of Atoka; his father and mother, Lonnie and Shirley Morton; two sisters-in-law, Ann Morton of Tiptonville and Betty Presley of Gulf Shores, AL; two brothers-in-law, Carl Bright of Cordova,TN and Tim O'Donnell of Chicago, IL; a nephew, Cody Morton and several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Morton.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Shackelford Funeral Directors – East Main Chapel with Randy Mead officiating. Burial will follow in Cave Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at East Main Chapel 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM Saturday.
