Mr. Mask passed away early Monday at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
He was born in Memphis, the son of the late John Carlin Mask, Sr. and Peggy Hodgson Mask. He attended prep school at St. Andrews-Sewanee School and received his degree in Political Science from the University of the South in Sewanee, as well. Mr. Mask graduated from law school at the University of Memphis and was an attorney his entire life.
A member of St. James Episcopal Church in Bolivar, he moved here in 1979. John was active in the Hardeman County Republican Party, having worked locally on several campaigns including Fred Thompson's senatorial run and subsequent victory. An avid history buff, he was well-versed in local history and events involving the War Between the States.
In his leisure time, he coached his son's soccer teams at St. Mary's School in Jackson for 4-5 years and he also enjoyed listening to music that ranged from Classical to Warren Zevon. John liked to duck and dove hunt and was a fan of UT Vols football and NY Yankees baseball.
He leaves his wife, Jeanne Jones Mask, whom he married on March 23, 2000; his daughter, Mary Caroline Reddish (Cade Allen) of Lubbock, TX; his son, John Carlin Mask, III (Megan Arthur) of Charlotte, NC; his stepson, Edward Daniel Hamer, Jr. of Eugene, OR; his sisters, Mary Susan Hensley of Erwin, TN and Anne Curtze (David) of Murfreesboro, TN; and his three grandchildren, John William Mask, Grayson Parker Reddish and Kinley Brooke Reddish.
