Edison Gaylord Burkett, Sr was born on April 16, 1956 in McNairy County, Tennessee to Hattie Belle Burkett Stackens.
He was united in marriage to Sylvia Damron Burkett on December 17, 1980. They recently celebrated 42 years of marriage. They have two children, April and Edison Gaylord, Jr.
Gaylord was educated in the McNairy County School System. He also attended Tennessee Technology Center, where he obtained his automotive technology certification. Later, he received his ASE certification at Memphis State University. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1975 and made a career as a National Guard vehicle mechanic. After 40 years of honorable military service, he retired as staff sergeant. He was also employed at Caterpillar as a technician and retired after 27 years.
Gaylord was a faithful member of the Forrest Hill Church of Christ. Some activities that he enjoyed including barbecuing, watching westerns, racing and football. He also loved spending time with his wife and children.
Mr. Edison Gaylord Burkett, Sr. departed this life on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital at the age of 66 Years, 8 Months, 18 Days. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Sylvia Damron Burkett; daughter, April Burkett; son, Edison Gaylord Burkett, Jr.; his mother, Hattie Belle Stackens; grandson, Keshaun Perkins and his mother - Karen Joy; sisters, Darlene Norman, Linda Kay Weatherspoon, and Nancy Ross; brothers, Tim Stackens and Travis Murphy; father-in-law, Bobby Damron West; brothers-in-law, Bobby Damron and wife Yvette, Roger L. Damron, and Jeffery Webb Damron; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by grandmother, Hattie Burkett; grandfather, Andy Burkett; brothers, Russell Stackens, Jr. and Mark Stackens; mother-in-law, Irene Damron.
