Mrs. Ann Wood, age 78 of Grand Valley Lakes, formerly of Memphis, passed away Monday evening, March 24, 2014 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Mrs. Wood was born in Cash Point, Tennessee September 2, 1935 to the late Walter Frank and Anna Laura Forbes White. She graduated from Central High School in Memphis with the class of 1953 and married Tom Wood, who survives, in November of the same year. Prior to retirement, she worked as an administrative assistant for the City of Memphis Public Works Department for 20 years. She moved to Grand Valley Lakes in 1995 and was very involved in the community. She was a member of the Grand Valley Lakes Women's Club and the Red Hats at Grand Valley Lakes. She was also the Secretary/Treasurer of the Grand Valley Lakes Volunteer Fire Department. She loved playing bridge and bunco, travelling, and spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of 60 years, Mrs. Wood is survived by two daughters, Cindy Woodruff (Denny) of Sanford, North Carolina and Michelle Harris (Donnie) of Middleton; a son, Phil Wood (Sherry) of Tupelo, Mississippi; a sister, Elizabeth Riggins (Harry) of Germantown; four grandchildren, Nathan Woodruff (Nicole) of Sanford, North Carolina, Tanya Sutterfield (Terence) of Tupelo, Mississippi, Brian Wood (Martha) of Nettleton, Mississippi, and Katie Harris of Middleton; and four great-grandchildren.
Donations made in memory of Mrs. Wood may be sent to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
